Guinness World Records -Most People Sewing Event.The records break are 606 peoples sewing simultaneously.
PUTRAJAYA: A total of 606 participants took part in a mass sewing event at Cempaka Sari Auditorium in the Putrajaya Corporation Complex for the attempt to break Guinness World Record. A representative of Guinness World Records from New Zealand was present to certify the record-setting attempt.
Organised jointly by the Creative Sewing Art Association (PSJK), Pusat Latihan Kraftangan Epal, Putrajaya Corporation, Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) as well as Janome Malaysia, the event was aimed at promoting batik art work as a national heritage. A representative of Guinness World Records from New Zealand was present to certify the record-setting attempt.
Present to witness the one-day event themed “Be A Part of The Breakthrough And Make Someone’s Dreams Come True’ were KPWKM Deputy Minister Senator Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri. At the same event, the Malaysian Book of Record also recognised the making of the longest sofa measuring more than 52.5 metres using recycled materials such as old jeans. The sofa was produced by prisoners at the Seberang Perai Prison in Penang. — BERNAMA

Social Welfare for Single Mothers from Epal.
Social Welfare -Reaching out for Single Mothers.Epal Handicraft Training Centre, a one-stop service training centre, offers a ‘‘Home Based Business programme’’ that enables women especially single mothers to venture into sewing to earn a living.
“Our main focus is to train them and improve their creative sewing skills,” she said.
The programme had received good response since it began, where women learned to sew clothes, do patchwork, and make handicrafts.To-date, about 350 women in Malaysia, most of whom are in their 30s and above, have taken up the programme and opened their own business.
A Handmade Market will open in April in selected shopping centres for the women to sell their creations.Epal is also a place for women to meet and share their love for sewing.

Epal Break Record- World Largest Bag, which took 1492 people six months to put together ,sewn together using 2984 old t-shirts, the 7.62m long, 3.04m wide and 5.44m high.You can even walk into the handbag,where over 100 handmade bag, using patchwork technique are being showcased.
The project began in Dec last year,involving participants ,from nearly 40 goverment agencies and NGO’s including the Malaysian Association of Creative Sewing Art.
The sewing exhibition is jointly organise by Persatuan Seni Jahitan Kreatif (PSJK),Epal Handicraft Training Center and Koperasi Dagang Seni Malaysia(KDSM)

The participants were briefed on the Program Epal with Disabled -conjunction with the Creating History World’s Record on the Largest Handbag by Mrs Hairil Reyani, the coordinator of the program. In addition to creating social ties between the two organizations, the participants indirectly gain exposure and sewing skills that can be an added value in their lives. Participants are pleased that their deficits are not an obstacle for them is now able to sew even a world record.
